Writing

At St Clement’s Primary School, each writing sequence is supported by a high-quality text, alongside other supplementary texts using the Talk4Writing approach. Children love to read, listen to and explore these texts to widen their vocabulary and understand text structures for their ‘writerly toolkit’. Through progressive writing sequences, we develop the children’s specific skills, allowing the children to apply them in a variety of writing contexts. Children develop the stamina and skills to write at length, with accurate spelling and punctuation. They are also taught the correct use of grammar. Research demonstrates that writing for a real purpose inspires children to love the writing process as well as value it as a form of communication. Children within our school therefore get the opportunities to write letters to different audiences, speak to real authors to ask questions and even persuade audiences for a specific purpose. We encourage writing for purpose across all foundation subjects and regularly receive responses which further inspire our children.
